Again it has been awhile since I posted. We have worked a few festivals...small ones that benefited local fire deptments. We have a huge festival coming up over 4th of July Weekend. We are vending at the VETFEST in Waldo Florida at the Dixieland Music Park and Campground. This will be our first time at this festival and all signs point to it being an awesome one. Our vending money will, again, go to benefit a group that is doing some awesome things. The Hampton Veterans Memorial Fund. I will post links sometime later today. I know, I know it has been a few days since I last posted....life is crazy. Today I want to describe a new...retro...new idea that I am working with. A lot of the places that Jim and I like to "haunt", mainly second hand shops, always seem to have many different and beautiful pieces of crochet work that people just don't want anymore. Those small to large pieces of work can be turned into beautiful works of art. I am letting the pieces dictate to me what I make with them. Right now I am beading two small off white pieces, then it will be lined and completed to make an evening bag. Check into these beautiful works of handcrafted art that you can turn into one of a kind designs. Let me know what you have discovered! The pins are adorned with small buttons, glass beads, jewelry findings and other small items that can be sewn (never glued) on. On the back is a sewn on jewelry pin. I am developing some felt bracelets and necklaces, will post more on these as I work out the design concepts for wear-ability . These pins will be with us at our festival vending, hopefully online soon. Although, we do not do iconic items, I can do felt art jewelry in many team colors. I make all the bedding for the awesome doll cradles that Jim makes. The complete bedding set consists of mattress, pillow, mattress cover, pillowcase, and a revirsible comforter. All frabrics used are pre-shrunk berfore sewing. This makes everything machine washable. If the cradle is ordered, I try to match favorite colors or room colors. We are not liscenced to use iconic fabric. The fabrics in use are cotton, fleece, or flannel. Little girls and big girls love seeing the cradles and buying them. Even a month later this year is still new. Jim and I have been busy dealing with items in our life away from the business that was extremely important. Now it is time to focus our energies on the upcoming festivals we are involved in.
Jim has been busy designing and building a newer version of our doll cradle to compliment the doll bed that he designed. Both items will house a 20 inch doll or baby doll. As stated on our website we do not do items that involve anything iconic, so if your little girl loves certain types of dolls just measure them. I will be involved in designing the complete bedding package for the beds and cradles. The complete package will include quilt, pillow with pillow case, and mattress with a sheet. All items are machine washable and dry able. We will have extra quilts, pillowcases and sheets on sell at the festivals. Jim, has also been on many other designs for items made from his favorite media ....wood...watch for coming attractions.
I have been writing stories involving cats, their antics, attitudes and love. I have also been working on designs for their cat loving parents to enjoy. Watch for the coming attractions as I am hoping to have some ready for our first festival in March. The Suwanee Valley Quilt Walk in Trenton, Florida on March 13th, 2010.
We are also starting to revamp our website, so please pardon our dust as we work. I want to tell the world about the two most awesome diverse female soldiers I have met. My two new to me gals are my adopted soldiers through www.soldiersangels.com These two ladies are awesome because both of them have chosen the army as a career, they are doing jobs they love to do and the fact they are keeping us safe makes them awesome in my book. The army is the reason I am alive today, so yes I will always be grateful. I can not say their location and / or jobs, but just knowing that are young women out there doing the work they are doing is wow, etc to me. I grew up in an age and time when women were just beginning to break into traditional male dominated jobs. These two young are not confined to the medical field, but are working in fields they chose and from what I have been told enjoy and love. I guess in a way this could be a fabric running through because women in my time pushed so the women of today could choose and excel in these fields. Yes, yes I know it has been awhile. Alot has happened in our family since my last post. As of now, hopefully things are back on track. I have been busy creating "handbag necklaces" for Halloween or just anytime someone wants something different. A picture will be added soon to the website of these unusal little useable necklaces. The idea was created by my guy and my youngest son clowning around in a local store. You never know where creative ideas are coming from. Fall has arrived, if only in calendar date, not in temperature here in Florida. Happy Fall and catch you later! I know it is pale in comparsion to what some folks are going through. Our little special kitten Maggie was almost a month old. Her eyes were open, she could follow and recognize our voice, was starting to walk a steady line and trying sit up in big kitty fashion. Maggie is now our kitty angel. She passed away on Wednesday.
Last night I bought fabric! Yippeeeeee......Wally World actually had some new items in. The store in Lake City is slowly doing away with fabrics. After that is gone, there will only be two quilt shops for fabric. I can always find used, but clean clothing to repurpose. Walmart thinks people do not sew anymore and electronics bring in more cash flow. So sad!
Have an awesome weekend! Thank you for reading. Although it seems with alot of fabric shops going bye, bye due to the economy our life's would do the same. However this is not true. For the most part I have seen families grow even closer! Everyone should know how to sew on a button and turn under a hem.
Fabric is my main passion. I am an artist by God's gift. Fabric can change a mood, take your breathe away, and be mixed with so many different mediums. I love to draw and design my own patterns. Having been a public school teacher for many moons (retired now) my knowledge and skill at free handing items for the classroom was ever so helpful. Please remember your child's teacher when school starts. This economy has caused many cutbacks and teachers will dig into their own pockets to help their students even when their family might go without. Just a thought! Blessings! This is my first attempt at blogging, so please go easy on me. I have a passion for fabric and sewing! My sweetheart Jim and decided to start our business, even though we have a down economy. We vend at local festivals, but decided that was not enough. So we brought the business to the web. Please check us out. Next time I will have tidbits about us to tell.
